Winston must have fallen back to sleep at some point. The sun was high in the sky when he decided to crawl out of bed and make his way to the kitchen for coffee. Time meant nothing to him -- he hadnât looked at a timepiece since the night of his transformation. What difference did it make when you had eternity?
His dream last night was wonderful, but disturbing as well. Heâd never heard of an incubus not being in control of dream sex. Never, though it wasnât like the lili had committee meetings or newsletters. Hell, after heâd been turned by Destiny, she gave him a cursory ânow you need to dream fuck women every night to surviveâ explanation. Heâd had to learn how to live this new immortal life on his own.
Supernatural creatures were loners by nature -- except vampires, who lived in nests all over the world. But the rest of the magical community broke off and kept to themselves.
That was what was so special about the Gilded Lili. Jonesy had created a place for all lili to find human dream lovers. But Win didnât know who he could go to about this new development.
He grabbed his phone and stared at the screen. Jonesy was younger than he was by a good one hundred twenty years, but who else could he ask? Besides, being a nightclub owner, he might have connections that Winston himself had cut long ago.
Win took a gulp of his coffee, then hit the call button. It took three rings before Jonesy answered. âHey, Win. I gave you my number a decade ago and you just now use it? This must be important. Everything okay, man?â
âUm, yeah. Look I know youâre busy, but I need to run something by you. Itâs not really an over-the-phone type of conversation.â
âOh, sure. Iâll be at work a few hours early. Swing by anytime. Just give me a call when youâre outside so I can let you in.â He paused a moment. When Winston didnât answer, he continued. âYou gonna be all right until then, or do you want to meet up now?â Jonesy sounded concerned.
Usually, Win wouldâve waited, but something told him to get this over with as soon as possible. âNo, actually. If itâs okay with you, Iâd like to meet up soon. Can you meet me at the Blue Spoon? My treat.â
Jonesyâs laugh brought a smile to Winâs face. âYou know my weakness! I love their coffee and cinnamon rolls. Iâll see you in, what, thirty minutes?â
Half an hour later, Win walked into the ancient twenty-four-hour diner and spotted Jonesy already sitting at a table. The floor was slightly sticky, the tabletops were peeling Formica, but the food was fan-fucking-tastic. Win slid into the taped-up, faded red vinyl booth, and immediately relaxed. Something about being around so many flawed items made him feel at home.
âHey, Winston,â Jonesy said. âWhatâs going on?â
Before Win could answer, they were interrupted by the waitress. Once the woman bustled
